#7 How confidential is therapy?
A concern of some individuals is that a friend, a coworker, or a family member will find out (without their permission) that they are seeking therapy. We assure you that your visits to Counseling and Consulting Associates of North Texas are completely confidential. To assure you of this promise, we will ask if it is okay to call and leave a message at your home or at work.
Also, the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPPA) protects you against any unauthorized uses and disclosures of your protected health information. We have established policies, procedures, and systems to ensure our ongoing commitment to comply with HIPPA regulations.
Legally, there are some instances when we are required to break confidentiality. This includes your telling us you are or have been sexually abused, you are currently suicidal or homicidal, you have been abused by another mental health professional, or your records are subpoenaed by the courts. Aside from these incidents, your information will be kept confidential.
